I.T Technician – Bristol

Job Purpose/Summary

To provides first line support for VPG sites (Exeter, Ringwood, Leeds, Hitchin, Bristol and VPG Ireland) and maintenance of computer networks, hardware, software, and other related systems.

VPG Bristol  – Hybrid – 4 days per week in office / 1 day from home. Further remote working flexibility can be reviewed (subject to review post probation). Mon – Fri 40 hours per week.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, telephone software, applications software, digital software, hardware, and configurations
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
  • Replacing faulty computer and network hardware components when required
  • Providing network/systems software and computer hardware diagnostics
  • Participating in testing new application releases(e.g. Pathport)
  • Managing companywide I.T help desk solution to log tickets and provide solutions to all VPG staff.
  • Maintaining IT assets including updating Asset register, rolling out new applications and user accounts including set up
  • Updating software versions in line with manufacturer guidance
  • Working closely with the IT and operational teams to support planning and implementation of system changes and smooth transition to developed data services
  • Rapidly establish a good working relationship with customers and other professionals, such as software developers
  • Test and evaluate new technology
  • Report any inducement in relation to the company, laboratory practice or test results
  • Provide technical support, documentation and reports with absolute confidentiality with respect to the whole company
  • Ensure Data Protection/Security and virus protection for all VPG staff, stakeholders and clients
  • Undertake any other duties that fall within the spirit of the job description
