Meet The Speakers

Matt Garland | Laboratory Director, VPG

Matthew Garland is a Laboratory Director at the Veterinary Pathology Group with over 20 years of experience in the veterinary field. A qualified Veterinary Nurse with a background in chemistry and molecular biology, he has contributed to multiple research projects and publications. Matt is passionate about laboratory science, with particular expertise in haematology and quality assurance, and regularly lectures student veterinary nurses as well as presenting CPD at leading UK congresses. He is also committed to developing others through his work with the Royal Society of Biology as a register assessor and awards judge.

Dr Eve Hanks | CEO & Founder, MI:RNA

Dr Eve Hanks is the CEO & Founder of MI:RNA. A veterinary surgeon with over 14 years of experience across production, equine, small animal, and emergency care, she went on to complete a PhD in Immunology at the University of Glasgow. Eve’s clinical pathology work at Scotland’s Rural College inspired her to pioneer the use of microRNAs as novel disease biomarkers, combining them with advanced modelling to bring precision medicine into everyday veterinary practice. As the first spin-out from SRUC, she has grown MI:RNA into a global team of experts dedicated to improving animal health and welfare through innovative diagnostics.
